Meatless Monday - Manna Bread

I am a big fan of Manna Bread. When I was a kid, my mom would take us to Du-pars Restaurant, and we would have fresh baked date nut bread. If any of you ever lived in the Hollywood area, you probably know what I'm talking about. It's a bit legendary. Manna Bread hits all those same delicious notes. My favorite is the Fruit and Nut variety. "Made entirely from sprouted organic grains, fruits, & nuts, and contains no salt, leavening, yeast, oil, or sweeteners." It's baked in low temp ovens to preserve nutrients. It is a cake like treat that is super good for you. How can you beat that?! You can find it in the frozen food section of good health food stores. I highly recommend it as a fast-food breakfast, can't be beat!

OMG Du-pars with the ancient waitresses, the awesome pancakes and side of melted dare I say butter. I used to wait on line with my sis, my ex and a friend every Sunday morning to get my carbs before my long run at the beach. Yes the bread was great. Thanx for the memories!

GiGi, how fun! I knew it would spark a memory for someone! I'm sure my sister will chime in soon too. Du-pars is a classic! And I think those same waitresses probably still work there.
Sorry Millie, no recipe, I just buy it ready made. It is pretty readily available though.

Haha you're right! Those waitresses are like from the Twilight Zone they work at Dupe's forever.
let's see what your sis says.

GiGi, that is so funny. It is like the Twilight Zone - one of the good episode - but yes, where is Rod?

Sister here... um I find it hard to believe that "Sprouted organic grains, with no oil or sugar" tastes just like Du-Pars.

I'm not saying it's not good, but really? Du-pars?

I'd never heard of Manna bread. It does sound good! Our local health food store doesn't carry it, so I looked for a recipe online and found this one for Date Manna Bread. :-)

OK now Meg, don't knock it till ya try it! I admit, it's been awhile since I've had Du-pars, but as I remember it, it is pretty darn close. It really is super yummy. Try it naughty girl! :)
Laloofah, good find, I bet that will be pretty close, and it sounds yummy too. If you try it please let me know how it turns out. Too bad you can't just pick up a loaf at the store.
Go Manna!!!
