Send It Forwards

Are you noticing that between this post, and the last, that a theme is forming? Maybe it's the time of year, but I seem to be thinking forwards and backwards. It is, after all, that resolution time of year. Today, it's all about forward thinking. I learned about this really interesting site, it's called Future Me, and I am all about it right now. The deal is, you write emails to yourself, in the future. Then, on the designated date, the email is delivered to you. How cool is that? I highly recommend you send at least one to yourself, dated for a year from now, it is totally therapeutic! I thought I'd just write a quick little somethin'-somethin' to myself for fun, but when I started writing, it was amazing, all the stuff that poured out of me. I believe it will be phenomenal to receive, and it was so cathartic to write. It was this lovely self nurturing experience. I really loved doing it, and I think I will make it a regular habit. It has so many layers to it. It could be used as a simple way to organize your life, it's a great business tool, or it could be a deeply profound reminder from the person that is, hopefully, most dear to you. I'm completely sold on it. Check it out.

First of all, what a gorgeous picture! Beautiful and festive!

It really is a perfect time of year for looking both back and ahead, just like the Roman god Janus (for whom January is named). The fact you're doing this too clearly means you're a goddess. :-)

I definitely must check out Future Me, what a great idea! A friend of mine in college used to write herself a letter (in those medieval days before email, lol) at least once every year, and then open and read it one year later. She referred to it as writing letters to her future self. (She also introduced me to the concept of doing favors for your future self, as in doing the dishes at night before bed, even though you're tired, because your future self who wakes up in the morning to an empty sink and clean dishes will be thrilled!) :-) This idea of writing yourself an email that automatically gets emailed to you later is brilliant. Now I don't have to worry about the troubles with a paper letter: a) remembering that I wrote it a year earlier and b) remembering where I put it! :-)

Thanks for another fun post, Jennifer! And enjoy a wonderful holiday weekend! xoxo

Sweet Rose, you are welcome.
Dear Laloofah, I'm so glad you liked the picture. I love the idea of doing things for your future self. What a fantastic way of looking at things. I think that might have just changed my life a little. Thanks for sharing that brilliant idea. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too.

I'm glad that idea resonates with you, Jennifer! It sure changed my life a little when my friend introduced me to it. I became far less likely to procrastinate on my class assignments, and even now I'm not only less likely to procrastinate on things, I do them with an entirely different attitude when I think of all the good I'm doing for my future self! (Though admittedly, there are still times when my Present Self gets all selfish and spiteful about it and couldn't care less about how much inconvenience she's inflicting on my poor Future Self!) :-)

That is funny Laloofah!
It really did resonate with me, thanks again.
Also, I want to mention to everybody that on Future Me you can also sign up to send future emails to other people. I think this could be a really interesting thing for a parent to do for their child (or any love one). I kept a diary for my daughter while I was expecting, and during her first few years, it is a really special gift for her future self. They could be like sentimental little time capsule, for our peeps.

Interesting concept, moving forward helped along by knowing what you hope for yourself maybe...
